ARICK MANOCHA is an eight year old boy who lives in the town of Saugerties, New York. His interests include: chess tournaments; Monopoly, Risk, Wizard and Poker marathons; Tae Kwon Do; space alien hunting; chatting with tourists at his Grandparents’ property OPUS 40; playing with his dogs, Alberta and Bobby; relaxing, hanging out with Sirina and swimming at the village beach; selling lemonade and promoting seat belt safety.

SIRINA WILEY is an eleven year old girl who lives in the town of Saugerties, New York. Her interests include: playing the clarinet; gymnastics; Tae Kwon Do; playing freeze tag and hide and seek; playing Mall Madness, Monopoly, Life; helping her parents with her four younger siblings; anything to do with Hannah Montana; hanging out with Arick; selling lemonade and promoting seat belt safety.

On March 15, 2008, after attempting to stand on the side of the road with large signs saying “Wear your seatbelt!” Arick, Sirina and Arick’s mom, Sue Manocha held their first Safety Checker business meeting. Together they developed the name, slogan, logo and first ideas to spread their idea about seat belt safety. Arick and Sirina want everyone to be a Safety Checker and check that others are wearing their seatbelt. Their slogan to help everyone to remember putting on their seatbelt is Sit, Click , Drive! Their logo is a round circle like a checker from a checker board using the same colors of black and red. You can become a Safety Checker if you remind someone to Sit, Click and Drive!

Since their first meeting in March, Arick and Sirina have learned about car seat and seat belt safety after attending a meeting with Pamela Wanning, the Ulster County car seat checkpoint trainer and coordinator. When they learned that only one in one hundred children are wearing seatbelts correctly, they were more inspired to continue their quest to spread the word.

Arick’s grandfather Tad Richards has supported the kids' venture by setting up a website for them at www.sitclickdrive.org. Arick and Sirina want Safety Checkers to check in on their website and let them know who they have told to wear a seatbelt and to sign their guestbook.

One of the kids’ ideas was to have a coloring page for other kids to do that teaches the idea of their slogan. Arick’s grandpa’s brother, Jonathan Richards has designed a wonderful page that can be found at the website. Arick and Sirina want Safety Checkers to color the page and send it in to be posted on the Sit, Click, Drive! web page. This coloring page has since evolved into a game page that is being distributed to restaurants for children and parents to do while waiting for dinner.

Arick and Sirina have been selling lemonade to earn money to buy products that say their slogan. Their first lemonade stand was the typical kids set up with a table from the house and handmade signs, but Arick’s older brother Patrick’s dad, Lee Walker and the caretaker at OPUS 40, Bill Cochrane, have designed a traveling lemonade stand. The stand has been used at OPUS 40 and the Saugerties Farmers Market. They sell fresh squeezed lemonade and hand out free Sit, Click, Drive! products that include mini frisbees, lollipops, chocolate coins, wooden tokens, balloons and Safety Checker stickers.

The Sit, Click, Drive! kids were at D.A.R.E. Day in Cairo September 27, 2008 giving out Sit, Click, Drive! promotional items to over 100 children.  Sunday, October 5, 2008 they will be doing the same thing at the Saugerties Make A Difference Day!

One of the Sit, Click, Drive! kid’s goals is to find sponsors that will help them pay for school packages that can be sent to every school that includes products that say Sit, Click, Drive! They would like to work with the local school district and the New York State's Highway Safety Program when preparing these packages.

To estimate a cost of donations needed; the current logo Sit, Click, Drive! Stickers cost approximately .08 cents each and most products with the slogan or logo cost around a dollar or two each depending on size of the order. At events such as D.A.R.E Day and Make a Difference Day there will be an estimated 250 children. We estimate a $3.00 cost per child for the cost of products, stickers, coloring pages package.

They also recently learned about the Battle of the Belts sponsored by Sean’s Run. This program can be developed in Ulster County and the Sit, Click, Drive! kids have met with Arick’s grade school P.T.A at Mt. Marion to gain support for promoting this program. Please visit www.seansrun.org for more information. The kids are looking forward to working along side this program to help promote seat belt awareness and use.
